You should all come on Sunday from 12-4 PM!
800 bowls are going to be displayed all over Pioneer Courthouse Square including those that our members made. Dana Lynn Louis is an artist here in Portland who got all her artist friends together and made 800 clay bowls. She asked over 20 organizations who work with folks experiencing homelessness or on the spectrum of poverty if their clients wanted to paint the bowls. She bought the art from each person with a stipend.
Dana’s going to auction them off, and all the money is going to be donated to one of the partner organizations. And the Maybelle Community Singers will be sharing the stage with some big names in Portland – Edna Vazquez, and Karen Lovely Band.
Maybelle Center was one of the organizations that Dana partnered with. During the three-month project, over 40 of our members painted bowls.
And because we let Dana use our space to host other organizations, our members learned how to be more equitable and hospitable. One of our member-volunteers, Tim, coordinated folks from Right 2 Survive to come in. You can see him in Gather: Make: Shelter’s video too! (If you don’t have time to watch the whole video, skip ahead to 0:46.) You can get a sneak peek at some of the beautiful bowls in the video.
I hope to see you all on Sunday!
